A teenager has been arrested after she was caught on camera slapping an elderly woman on a busy street in west London.
The disturbing incident took place in Hounslow High Street on Tuesday. In the shocking footage, the schoolgirl clad in a school uniform is seen shouting at the old lady.
"Who you talking to," the girl yells at the old woman but the woman just shakes her head. The girl repeats the question again before hitting her across the face. The slap left the elderly woman shaken and in tears. She also suffered a swollen face, police said.
Three male teenagers in school uniform can also be seen watching the tense exchange and there seems to be other onlookers behind the camera but no one stopped the girl. A passer-by from the other side of the street late came to the wman's aid and put a comforting arm around her.
The video was published on Snapchat by a user called Skye and has since been shared on Instagram.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "Police investigating the assault on a woman in Hounslow High Street have arrested a 13-year-old girl. The offence happened on Monday, 5 February at about 16:10hrs. The victim, a woman in her early 50s, was struck across the face. Officers attended the scene, the victim had a swollen face but did not require hospital treatment."
