Update on security officer brutally butchered by cultists in UNN lailasnewsThe Enugu Police Command on Tuesday, commenced an investigation into the alleged gruesome murder of a University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) security officer, Chinedu Oranya. The Command’s spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu, told newsmen in Enugu that the command’s investigation was ongoing to arrest the perpetrators.Amaraizu said that the command had sent a special homicide squad to unravel the mysteries behind the murder.
“All hands are on deck; the command will get to the root of the matter through a diligent investigation, which has already started as I speak.
“Those behind the gruesome murder of Oranya must be brought to book and must be prosecuted accordingly,’’ he assured.
Amaraizu further advised staff and students of the university to go about their activities without fear of intimidation.
“The command is assuring everyone in the institution adequate security as we have put in place measures to beef-up security within and outside the institution,’’ he added.
The Chief Security Officer of UNN, Mr Romanus Nwafor confirmed the killing of a security officer in the university, Mr Chinedu Oranye, by unknown gunmen within the campus.
Oranye, working with the university’s security department, was killed around 10 p.m. on Feb. 17 [Saturday].
According to information gathered about the deceased, he was quite feared among the students and well respected among the staff of the school.
Chinedu was involved in so many campaigns against cultist action on the campus and he was reported to have been responsible for the rustication and eventual prosecution of cultists arrested on the school campus.
He was attacked and butchered by yet to be identified attackers who left him dead in the pool of his blood.
According to the Facebook user, Nchekwubechukwu Akpaka Basil Jnr who broke the story and at the same time seeking justice for the slain security personnel, the man was respected for making it his priority to secure the lives and properties of the students on campus
