General Kollington Ayinla is a veteran Fuji music star, and he’s still at the game of music, churning out albums that are making waves. In this interview with tribune, he speaks on several issues bordering on music and politics. Excerpts:

What are you working on right now?
I’m working on a new album entitled, “Yuppy Daddy”.
What is the title of the last job you did?
My last job was entitled “White Horse”.
How was its acceptance?
It was okay.
After the demise of your friend, are people not thinking that only the old people sing fuji music nowadays?
Who are you talking about?
I am talking about the late Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, the Fuji icon?
Yes. That may be their thought. But as we have old Fuji musicians, so also we have young Fuji musicians.
But, generally, is Fuji music still acceptable in the country?
Of course, yes. It is still acceptable.
Apart from that, what are your plans for your fans?
There is no other plan than for them to watch out for the new album because I am still very much into music.
What is your own view about the present Nigerian government as it affects the music industry?
It affects all facets of Nigerian life, not only the music industry. Buhari himself may be a good man but, his lieutenants are the ones causing all the problems.
What do you think is the way forward?
There is no other way forward than to plead with God. God is our only way forward. There is nothing we can do. All of them are the same.
We would soon elect another candidate to the office. What is your own opinion about it?
Who else in Nigeria is not a thief? We are all corrupt. If somebody gives birth to a child today, corruption is already in his body system.
What is your opinion about hip-hop musicians?
I believe it is God that is blessing their career. We know that all what they sing does not usually make sense. But since God’s blessing is on them, there is nothing we can do.
Is there any of your children that has interest in your chosen career?
Yes. I have a son who is a hip-hop musician.
What is his name?
His name is Big Shef.
