Oyo to spend N178.7m on security communication gadgets

Oyo State Government yesterday approved N178.7million for the procurement of radio communication equipment for the police.
It said the purpose was to improve the efficiency of security operatives, especially in the areas of communication.

The government disclosed that the 100 new security vehicles recently procured, had been branded and equipped with the necessary gadgets and set to hit the roads next week.

It spoke through the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun, who briefed the press after the weekly State Executive Council meeting, chaired by Governor Seyi Makinde.

Olatunbosun, who was flanked by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Mr Jide Ajani, said the executive council was also briefed on the illegal Olore detention facility, adding that the majority of the rescued inmates have been reunited with their parents.

While not being specific on when the building, which had already been marked for demolition, would be pulled down, Olatunbosun said what was of uttermost concern to the government at the moment was the resuscitation of the victims, while those found guilty would be prosecuted.

He said: “The council approved the procurement of radio communication equipment for the police and other paramilitary organisations throughout the state. It is to the tune of N178.7million.

“Also, the 100 units of Kia Rio cars procured for security operatives have been branded and will be distributed next week to the security agencies by the special grace of God.”

“Also, the Council was briefed on the situation concerning the Olore rehabilitation home, especially on the inmates and we were told that the inmates moved from the centre to OYTRMA building at Sanyo area of the state. We, after treating them and giving them proper care, have succeeded in linking the majority of them with their parents, while the remaining have been sent to the state rehabilitation centres.”
