Zambian media has reported that 27 people have been confirmed dead after drinking jik during a deliverance service last Sunday.
18 other congregants are reported to be in a critical condition and admitted at medical institutions. The Pastor is alleged to have told congregants that drinking jik will wash away demons that had been tormenting them in lives. Two nurses and four teachers are reported to be among the dead. Southern Africa has been experiencing an increase in strange methods being done prophets to cleanse congregants. In South Africa, these prophets are known for making people drink petrol and eat grass.
