A prisoner was so desperate to smuggle a mobile phone into prison he inserted one up his BACKSIDE. Cavanagh, 32, of, Denton, Tameside, was a remand prisoner at HMP Manchester when he began complaining of abdominal pains.
He was X-rayed by medics in case he was suffering from gallstones. But the X-ray instead produced a very clear picture of a mobile phone with the keypad, screen and speaker all clearly visible.
Officers confronted Cavanagh after being shown the image, telling him they knew he had a phone concealed in his anal passage. A scan with a magnetic wand later confirmed what was obvious.
Cavanagh was escorted to the segregation unit where he managed to eject the phone from his system and flush it down the toilet because when he was scanned again with the magnetic wand he no longer gave a positive reading.
Now he has had his jail-time extended as a result of the botched smuggling bid.
