Tears As Olori Kafayat Adeyemi Dies, 2months After the Alaafin’s Death (Details)

 


Olori Kafayat Adeyemi, one of the wives of the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi has joined her ancestors.

The Oyo palace has been thrown into mourning following her death.

Esabod Global news learnt that the queen died on Friday, July 1st, barely two months after her husband, the Alaafin died in April.

Though details of her death is unknown at the time of reporting, sources confirmed that she died on Friday night.

Olori Kafayat Adeyemi was the fourth wife of the late Oba Adeyemi III, she was the mother of Prince Adebayo Adeyemi (D’Gov), who is the chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Pensions Board.

Before her demise, she was known as Iya Aguo or Iya Ibeji in Oyo Kingdom.

Esabod Global news recalls the Alaafin of Oyo, Lamidi Adeyemi was announced dead on April 23rd, 2022.

According to the Premium Times, Alaafin Adeyemi, the third from the Alowodu Ruling House, died in the late hours of Friday, April 23rd at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti.

The remains of the top Yoruba traditional ruler were brought to Oyo in the early hours of Saturday, April 24 and traditional rites began.

He was 83 years old and the longest reigning Alaafin ever, having ruled for 52 years.

As with the custom of Yoruba monarch, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, the late Alaafin of Oyo was given a befitting celebration of life ceremony.

The ceremony caused a stir online when videos of the statue erected for the late monarch made rounds on the internet.

At first glance many thought that it was the Alaafin, but at closer look, you could see that it was a statue erected for him.

According to a netizen, it was the tradition in Yorubaland that a replica of a king be made and placed in the palace for 3 weeks or more till the regent was picked and the statue is what is buried.

Some social media users took to comment section to express their fears over the statue.
