According to a statement by his lawyer on Wednesday, Abayomi said he did not speak or write any statement to the police in relation to the cult group.
The Ikorodu based businessman who was detained on 30th July after he was lured to the Police Command Headquarters has however been released on Tuesday, Bartholomew Aguegbodo, his lawyer added.
Lagos State Police Command had disclosed that Mr. Abayomi, residing in Magodo, was apprehended sequel to intelligence reports that he was operating with the deadly group.
Report by the police included that Mr. Abayomi’s arrest resulted in the police raiding a shrine allegedly belonging to the cult group in the Agbowa area of Ikorodu on Monday.
Earlier, the police had asserted that Mr. Abayomi confessed to knowing other individuals who own shrines in the area, before leading the officers to the
Badoo cult’s shrine.
However, the accused termed the police’ allegations as a “baseless falsehood.”
In his words, Mr. Abayomi succinctly said “for the avoidance of doubt, Alhaji Alaka Abayomi is a legitimate businessman with business concerns in Ikorodu for over 20 years and has never been in any way whatsoever connected or linked with the Badoo Cult or the gruesome and mindless killings going on
in Ikorodu, Lagos by the Badoo Cult, ” his lawyer noted in a statement.
