Bayelsa Speaker hires Pastor Uma Ukpai to heal constituency of crime

Following the spate of kidnappings, militancy, killings, illegal oil bunkering and other criminal activities that has taken over his constituency, the Speaker, BayelsaState House of Assembly, Konbowei Benson, who represents Southern Ijaw Constituency 4, solicited for the services of popular Pastor Uma Ukpai, to heal his constituency.According to Bayelsa Speaker in a statement released on Thursday, it is expected that Rev. Uma Ukpai’s crusade in his constituency will heal,  cleanse the region and change the negative narratives of his community.

“Travelling to our once very peaceful environment is now done only with the presence of heavily armed military men, even traditional and social functions are not left out; an ugly trend that has made everyone a victim and vulnerable. .

It is worrisome that in the quest to acquire powers of invincibility, youths from the region have transported many idols, evil deities from other parts of the country to the region and entered into covenants with them without taking into account the effects on their spirituality and relationship with God. .

This has increased idolatry and unexplainable lifestyle in the land” he said.

Punch reports that Benson who emphasized the need for healing of the land, further disclosed that he decided to engage the “man of God”, Uma Ukpai who agreed to hold the crusade, saying its intent was to put a stop to all the criminal activities in the region by divine intervention.

Recall that few months ago, Kate Owoko, a Bayelsa lawmaker, defended the heavily-panned floating latrine she built for her constituents.

The toilet built with corrugated iron sheets is located in one of the creeks of Amassoma where users are made to pass their faeces into the water.

The development had resulted in a backlash from Nigerians who saw the toilet as an insult to voters.

“This should be in no way mistaken for a constituency project which is her primary duty to her people. We are all aware that her constituency project is on education and it is ongoing,” a critic said.

But in reaction to the attacks, Owoko said the toilet was built due to pressing demand of the women of  Okori-Ama and Oweidei-Ama of Amassoma – the town of late Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, a former governor of Bayelsa.

“These were the pressing need from these women at the time. Due to the terrain of these said compounds, they were in grave need for such toilets to answer to the ‘call-of-nature’,” a post on her Facebook page read.
