Horror as woman, 44, found stabbed to death in the street as man, 45, arrested on suspicion of murder

MURDER cops have swooped to arrest a 45-year-old man after a woman was brutally stabbed to death on a leafy suburban street last night.

Paramedics found the stricken 44-year-old woman bleeding to death on Norfolk Road, Ilford, at 7pm yesterday evening after anguished residents called 999.Detectives immediately launched a murder investigation, before arresting the man on suspicion of murder early this morning.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Police were called by London Ambulance Service (LAS) to Norfolk Road, Ilford at 19:09hrs on Wednesday, 3 January following reports of an unresponsive woman in the street.

"Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and found a 44-year-old woman with serious stab injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 19:16hrs.

"Next of kin have been notified but formal identification awaits. A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.
