Police Arrest Female Banker Who Locked Up House Maid and Traveled Home For Christmas

When 11-year-old housemaid, Precious Nwafor, was discovered locked up in a house by her boss who traveled to her village for the Christmas holidays, a lot of quarters got infuriated about the story and this  reignited the discourse on the increasing abuse of children in the state.
But on Friday, the police broke the news that the boss, a banker, Nkechinyere Nwajagu, has now been arrested. Nwajagu told investigators that she is a native of Ajali in Orumba Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Neighbours around the area tipped off the law enforcement agents when they found the girl locked up in the house all by herself at 12 Baderin Street, Mafoluku, Oshodi area of Lagos. She was without food and kept in a poorly ventilated room.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police was directly involved in the case as he was the one that led the Police team to the crime scene to rescue the girl. The Commissioner ordered  that the iron bars on the windows be cut open to help extricate the child.
The child, who is from the same state as Nwajagu, said she was brought to work as a housemaid in Lagos with a promise of better life. The police have handed her over to the Social Welfare Department of the Lagos state Government.
On Friday, Nwajagu was said to have turned  herself in at the Makinde Police Station, Oshodi. She was detained and later transferred to the Human Rights Section of Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja.
According to the suspect, it was her elder sister, who brought the girl from the village and left her in her care when she traveled home for Christmas.
Nwajagu was subsequently charged to court and arraigned on charges of child abuse and unlawful detention.
