Imam who saved Christians during Plateau massacre honoured by the US

Imam who saved Christians during Plateau massacre honoured by the US

The United States of America had honoured the Imam who saved about 300 Christians from getting killed during the massacre in Nghar Yelwa village of Barkin Ladi local government in Plateau state.

Imam Abdullahi Abubakar, a Muslim cleric, was recognised and honoured for his heroic act
at an event organised by the US embassy in Jos.

On June 24, suspected Fulani herdsmen invaded about 15 communities in the Barkin Ladi LGA, killing over 200 persons. As the massacre was underway, the Islamic cleric hid some fleeing Christians in his home and in the mosque. When the killers met him and demanded that he release to them the non-Muslims in his mosque, he covered up for the Christians and informed the bandits that everyone in the mosque is a Muslim.
