The late Baba Ọba, Lukman Arohunfale, a revered socialite and traditionalist, passed away under circumstances already sparking fierce controversy. According to reports, Airhiagbonkpa was at the 10th floor of the High court building with members of the Ugiekhue community to get a new date for a case involving his community, Ugiekhue community.
He was pressed and decided to use the rest room. He opened a door and as he stepped into a place he thought was the toilet., he fell to his death. It was later discovered that Mr Airhiagbonkpa stepped into a open space where the former elevator for the building was located. The High court was undergoing renovation and part of the things being fixed was the elevator. The contractors removed the elevator with the hope of putting a new one as soon as possible.
“We used to have a lift that has gone bad and this administration is fixing it. The company carrying out the renovation work removed the old lift and is still working on it. We were told the man came to Court 10 and wanted to ease himself. He went to where the lift is and fell through. The MD of the contractor said there was a ribbon indicating no passage but that I cannot say anything about.” a staff said
