Jonathan was better than Obama

Editor’s Note:  Tired of the angry political arguments he saw on social media sides, Naij.com reader Elvis wrote to us explaining why the the tempo of political debate among Nigerians needs to ease up, and why we are often too hard to on our leaders, including former president Goodluck Jonathan. By Elvis Chika Thompson I am not a political activist so I do not usually do this but I see nothing wrong if we tell ourselves the truth. I have seen so many Nigerians expressing their anger on social media over the present administration. Some blame it on the previous government and some are even making the comparison of the both the present and the previous. One truth is, every living man on earth has their own uniqueness in them which means there can never be another me except me, so as with you.

Goodluck Jonathan with incumbent president Muhammadu Buhari It would be wrong to compare Goodluck Jonathan with President Muhammadu Buhari but there is one common thing about them if you view it from the realistic point by not being sentimental is that they both have good intentions for this country. Jonathan was not a failure as many people described him, he is not a thief or corrupt as some people say he is, though he has his weakness. Where Jonathan failed was that, corruption was fantastically going on under his nose without perceiving it, but at the time he realized and was about taking action it was too late, Nigerians already hated him and we all wanted him out of office, so when we had the opportunity, you, me, we all voted him out for change. Now here is the change Buhari whom to us fantastically has zero tolerance for corruption. Let us put away political and tribal sentiment, Buhari is a wonderful man.

However, I tell you this truth if you bring Barack Obama the president of USA to Nigeria to rule as president he will fantastically disappoint us all like the previous administrations, because of our political system in Nigeria. Take Jonathan to the USA to rule as president I bet you he will do fantastically well, because over there they have a template for their system that every leader follows. That is why in civilized countries like the US when a politician, be it the president, is found with an act of corruption a common security agent protecting him has every right to force him to resign because it is in their system. This makes it difficult for corruption to be fantastically practiced as it is in our country today.

With the way Buhari is fighting corruption it will not change anything for the only solution is to redesign a better template for our system. Our system is so corrupt that in our Constitution you will see a section that condemns an act in the same constitution you will find another section supporting the same act that was condemned. I am sorry that if Buhari does not act fast the same cane that was used on Jonathan might also flog him out of seat.
