Belgian Paralympian who vowed to be euthanised after competing in last year's Rio Olympics, has revealed she's ready to be put to death.
Marieke Vervoort, 38, a former world champion wheelchair sprinter won silver and gold at London 2012, and later competed at last year's Olympics in Brazil.
The Paralympian stunned the world of sport as she won silver in a wheelchair race despite suffering from an incurable, degenerative spinal disease, progressive tetraplegia, which paralysed her.
In 2008, Marieke who has been living in almost constant pain, signed euthanasia papers so she can decide when to end her own life.
Speaking with her pet labrador Zenn by her side, Vervoort, from Diest, 40 miles from Brussels, said she's finally prepared to end her life and has written letters to her loved-ones.
According to her, she's unable to sleep, while her eyesight is disappearing and painkillers are becoming less and less effective and she's deeply depressed by excruciating pain.
"I don't want to suffer any more," Vervoort told the Telegraph. "It's too hard for me now. I get more and more depressed.
"I never had these feelings before. I cry a lot. A neurologist stayed with me the whole night while I had one spasm after another.
"She said it wasn't an epileptic seizure but just the body screaming, 'I'm in so much pain. I'm done.'liv
