It’s Not Yet Ripe To Say IF I’ll Support Buhari For Second Term – Obasanjo

A former Nigerian president,  Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and chairman of the panel of advisors of the Africa Initiative for Governance (AIG)has said that it is not yet ripe to determine if he will support  President Muhammadu Buhari's second term bid or not.
Obasanjo backed Buhari- All Progressives Congress APC in 2014 as against the PDP-led administration by former president Goodluck Jonathan. That same year, Obasanjo dumped PDP under which he ruled Nigeria for eight years.
Obasanjo, after delivering his speech titled, “Leadership in the African Context – How to Drive Transformational Change in African Countries,” at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford on Monday, said that it was not yet time to say if he would support Buhari’s re-election bid or not.
Naija News gathered that the event was organised by AIG to announce the 2017/18 scholarship recipients.
While responding to questions from the audience on why the African continent is governed by bad and  corrupt leaders, Obasanjo said fighting corruption in Nigeria was a hydra-headed monster, which was deeply rooted in the system.
He added that corruption has become a phenomenon that must be fought continuously with collective efforts.
“The man (leader) on top must be above board and be seen to fight corruption. Those around him must also be upright and various institutions such as the police, judiciary, the executive and other bodies must make it an all-inclusive affair because it is an endless process,” Obasanjo said.
