Two persons lost their lives while seven others were injured in an auto crash which occurred in front of the abandoned Gateway Hotel, Ota, in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State on Saturday around 6.10am.
It was gathered that those who died were crushed to death in the accident which involved two trucks, that were travelling to Lagos.
The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said one of the trucks with number plate, KJA 113 XR, while descending the slope in the axis rammed into a broken down vehicle With plate number, EKY 653 XB.
He explained that some hoodlums in the area had gathered around the first truck, trying to extort money from the driver, when the second truck had a brake failure and rammed into the truck from behind.
He said, “When this happened, the hoodlums moved from the first truck and went to the second one, and wanted to extort money from the driver, who had been injured due to the impact of the accident.
“But in the process, an oncoming commercial bus painted in Lagos colour allegedly crushed two of the hoodlums to death instantly and injured seven others with one of them in a critical condition.
“The commercial bus driver sped off the scene immediately and our operatives could not apprehend him or capture its number plate.”
Akinbiyi said the corpses of the deceased had been deposited at the state General Hospital, Ifo, while the injured were receiving medical attention at Ojugbele Hospital at Ota.
