3 REASONS IBADAN IS CONSTANTLY AN ABUSIVE MEME ON SOCIAL MEDIA

“A MAN IS AN EXPRESSION OF HIS ENVIRONMENT”,

AN ANONYMOUS WRITER ONCE QUOTED.

THIS QUITE CORRECT THOUGH COULD BE ARGUED IN SOME QUATERS. GOING BY THE AFOREMENTIONED STATEMENT,

ONE WOULD SEE WHY IBADAN INDIGENES ARE PAINSTAKINGLY

POINTED OUT AS AN OBJECT OF RIDICULE ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

Below are 3 speculated reasons why ridicule would continue on social media..
LOCALITY: It is presumed as a notion by many Nigerians that Indigenes of Ibadan are centuries behind civilization. Especially those who were born, raised and lived their adult life in Ibadan. The environment which breeds their locality have funny names such as Oke-Iho, Oke-Koto, Oke-Ado, Moniya, Sangotedo, Aleshinloye, Challenge, just to mention a few. Of course, if one is not a Yoruba indigene, one would find it herculean pronouncing such names. Now, one would accept the daze of amazement on their faces when SHOPRITE opened one of its stores there.
DIALECT: It is also an acknowledged fact between linguistic scholars that Ibadan indigenes have the most “near-perfect” dialect of the Yoruba language. Obviously, it becomes an albatross for them pronouncing English words or terms without infusing their tonetic rhythm. By this, they end up turning words upside down when talking and by extension, it is to one’s comic relief.
TRIBAL MARKS: This particular prominent feature of these indigenes have been well distorted into different caricatures on social media memes. Noteworthy, it is a fact that tribal marks were given to achieve beauty, in this era and with the rate at which they’ve been trolled, the indigenes don’t see the beauty instead they see the beast in the practice.

However, all these are speculations and have not in anyway affected the warm reception you get from an Ibadan man. Their cab drivers and quite hilarious and would entertain you all the way during your trip. They make you forget the need to have a radio in the car.
